MICE in Manizales
Coffee Axis & Eco-Convention Gateway
Manizales is the largest city in the Central Andes and capital of Caldas department. As part of the famous Coffee Axis — Colombia’s UNESCO-recognized coffee cultural landscape — it offers a distinctive corporate event setting combining mountain scenery, coffee culture, and the nearby Nevado del Ruiz volcano. The city has 45 conference rooms across all venues with a combined capacity of 9,600+ people and approximately 2,800 hotel rooms across 186 properties.

Convention & Event Venues
ESTELAR Recinto del Pensamiento Hotel & Convention Center
The flagship MICE venue for the Coffee Axis. A 179-hectare eco-property just 4 km from La Nubia Airport. 9 meeting rooms: main auditorium (250 pax), Pabellón de Madera / Bamboo Pavilion (1,000 pax), multipurpose room (200 pax), plus smaller breakout rooms (30–60 pax). Total capacity up to 1,100 people. Full AV equipment.

What makes it unique: 20 hectares of gardens, an ecological trail, chairlift, orchid forest, butterfly observatory, birdwatching areas, Jacuzzi, hammam, spa, and chapel — all on-site. This is a venue where the setting itself becomes the incentive experience.
Hotel Landscape
City hotels: ESTELAR El Cable (modern business hotel, central), Hotel Dann Carlton Manizales (4-star, city center), Recinto del Pensamiento (on-site accommodation at the convention complex).
Coffee haciendas: Hacienda Venecia (~30 min from city) is one of the largest traditional working coffee farms in the region, offering boutique rooms, coffee tours, and private group facilities.
Transportation & Access
La Nubia Airport (MZL): Small-runway airport, 8 km from city center. Turboprop aircraft only due to runway length and mountain terrain. One domestic route: Bogotá (EasyFly, ~7 flights/week, 1-hour flight). Weather cancellations are common.
Alternative: Fly into Pereira’s Matecaña Airport (PEI) — 53 km away, approximately 50 minutes by road — for significantly more flight options and reliable service. Many groups use Pereira as their gateway to Manizales.
Attractions & Companion Programs
Nevado del Ruiz: Active volcano (5,311 m) in Los Nevados National Park. Landscape tours and viewpoints available (peak access subject to volcanic alert level).
Hot springs: Termales el Otoño (Villamaría, 30 min) — 3 thermal pools at ~41°C. Termales del Ruiz at 3,500 m elevation for a high-altitude thermal experience.
Feria de Manizales: Annual fair (January 3–11), one of Colombia’s top cultural events — parades, International Coffee Queen Pageant, craft exhibitions, and concerts.
Coffee farm tours throughout the Caldas region offer the full seed-to-cup experience.
Practical Information
Climate: Consistent year-round average of 21°C (70°F) at 2,101 m elevation. Bring a light jacket for evenings. Best months: January, July, and August (lowest precipitation). Avoid March–May and September–November (wettest).

Air connectivity
La Nubia (MZL), 8 km from the center, offers only the domestic route to Bogotá (~1 hour, turboprop ATR-72/Dash-8 with Avianca and Satena). Due to its altitude and exposure to fog, it suffers frequent closures, so for international MICE groups we recommend Pereira’s Matecaña (PEI) as the alternate airport (60 km via highway, ~1h 15min). Pereira receives direct flights from Panama, Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
